More on our editorial policyWhen Debt.com launched the FinTok Awards three years ago, I was skeptical - and not because I hate new technology. I might be old, but I’m not old-fashioned. I’ve always embraced every possible method to educate Americans about their money.
I simply doubted that anyone could teach very much in a TikTok video. I was wrong.
The past FinTok winners amazed me, both in 2023 and 2024. Those awards were such a success, we’re expanding them.
FinTok becomes FinTalk
This year, we’ll also honor the best financial educators on YouTube, Instagram Reels, and any audio or video podcast. Your votes will determine the winners.

Because there are so many smart financial educators out there, it just made sense to broaden our categories. We also realized something back in 2022 that seems obvious today: Content creators might start on one platform, but if they’re good, they don’t stay there.
For instance, I’m happy we discovered Melissa Jean-Baptiste on TikTok. But now she’s on multiple platforms and has even gone old-school, writing a book last year called, So…This is Why I’m Broke. It didn’t make sense to limit our awards when so many tech-savvy financial educators aren’t limiting themselves.
Why these awards matter
As Debt.com has reported for a decade, some of the worst financial advice is also the loudest. If you simply do a quick internet search, you’ll stumble upon ads from companies trying to sell you one debt-busting or money-making service. It might be an excellent service – but if your circumstances and income don’t fit that solution, you’re spending money for nothing.
The beauty of the FinTalk Awards is that our professional staff has vetted the nominees to ensure they’re all the best in their fields. Even if you don’t vote for the best, I hope you’ll consult their content – as well as Debt.com’s – and learn how to save and spend better.
