It's National Donut Day, so here's your ultimate guide to sugary gratis goodies.

Friday is National Donut Day. You could snag half a dozen free treats tomorrow, depending where you live. Make that a dozen if you’re willing to stop by each shop doughnut shop during two different shifts.

This “holiday” honors the Salvation Army volunteers who served free doughnuts and coffee to soldiers during World War I and World War II. We’ll skip the history lesson, though, so you can start charting your free-donut spree. Here’s everything you need to know…

  • What: Free doughnut with the purchase of a hot or iced coffee or “Chill Zone” drink
  • When: 5 to 10 a.m. Friday

  • What: Free OC Sand (which the company describes as its “signature creation made with honey glaze and dusted with cinnamon sugar”)

  • What: Free donut of your choice — no purchase necessary
  • When: Friday
