$67.5 billion

“The market for pet products and services” in 2016, according to research firm Mintel. That’s an increase of 4.3 percent from 2015.  How much money is that? Well, it’s double what we spend on all professional sports per year, from game tickets to pay-per-view.

1.2 million

“The number of insured dogs and cats in the United States,” according to Pets Best Insurance Services pet statistics. While that sounds like a lot, “that makes up only 0.75 percent of the total number of dogs and cats nationwide.” So it seems pet insurance is a growth market.

86 percent

Dog owners who say “their dogs stared at them for no apparent reason,” according to Purina. Even more, 95 percent, said “their dog barked to get their attention.”

59 percent

“Pet parents” who say “their pet will participate in Halloween this year,” according to Petco. That’s a 9 percent increase from last year.
